Trees are generally felled from October to February, since a cutting ban applies to many trees from March to September. Your town or municipal council, or the district office, can tell you whether the ban applies to your tree.
In Zittau, you generally need a permit from the city to fell a protected tree, even on your own property. Protected trees include, for example, deciduous, coniferous and fruit trees with a trunk circumference of 100 centimetres or more, measured at a height of one metre. Before felling, check with the City of Zittau or your municipality whether your tree is covered.
You apply to the City of Zittau as the owner or another authorised person, in writing or online via Amt24, the service portal of the Free State of Saxony. Your application needs, among other things, a site plan and a photo of the tree. The city's tree officer then inspects the tree. Once all the documents are in, the city generally decides within six weeks.
